Rochelle Railfan Park Cookout
On Saturday June 16, 2007 10 members and 1 member emeritus got together at the Rochelle Railfan Park to see some 1:1 scale trains and have a good old fashion cookout. The weather was HOT. With temps around 90 the concern was it was going to be uncomfortable. Well even with the 90's there wasn't alot of humidity and with a nice breeze blowing through the shelter the conditions were very nice.
One big concern was FOOD. Of course there was plenty. Snacks were laid out on a picnic table starting at 10am. The grill got fired up around 1pm and the brats, burgers and hot dogs were cooking. Everyone had plenty to eat or it was there own fault.
The 1:1 scale trains were also running aplenty. With about a 1 hour lull around 11am the parade on the Union Pacific was pretty steady. With track being replaced east of Rochelle the UP was down to a single track mainline. So everything was being fleeted. 3-4 eastbounds would run and then 3-4 westbounds. In between the BNSF would sneak in 1 or 2. Between 10:30am and 7:00pm I saw 30 trains, not bad just over 8 hours.
